My goodness it's been a while since I updated our family blog. I've been so busy and haven't had the time to keep this blog updated, but, one of my New Year's comittments is to update our 'ohana blog weekly.
2009 ended with our family feeling so very blessed and grateful to Our Heavenly Father. The holiday season, beginning with Thanksgiving and through Christmas and New Year's was wonderful. We had time with family and friends and the best part was the opportunities to give service. During Thanksgiving the Young Men did an imu for the ward families and the Young Women prepared a meal for a family who lost their husband/dad last Christmas. They also made baskets of food and delivered it to needy families. Our boys, Kamalei, Kamaehu and Kamahiwa got to clean our elderly neighbors yard and they even got the neighborhood boys to join in. About a week later, while home on furlough Friday, they cleaned our next door neighbor's yard, all their own, without any prompting for us. That was really special. For Christmas Kamalani did the "Giving Tree" as her Young Women Value project under "Good Works". Through her efforts 28 children received Christmas gifts and two families received holiday meals. Delivering the gifts and meals was the best part. It was a very spiritual experience for us. Since Thanksgiving we've been helping a homeless family, living on the beach. We've been able to take food, clothing, Christmas gifts and some much needed supplies. Their Christmas wish list included toilet paper, a better cooler and a frying pan. I cried so hard when I read their list. I think all their requests were met within a week thanks to wonderful people in and outside of our Ward.
I received the best Christmas gift ever . . . a CD with each of my 4 children singing a song for me and speaking to me, telling me how much they love me. Llewellyn worked on this project with Jason. I loved it!!! I listen to it over and over again. I am so proud of them. Hiwa's song is the song he wrote for me for mother's day. Jason put it to music and Hiwa sang it on the CD. So cute and well done. Kamaehu chose to sing "Queen's Jubilee" and when he spoke on th CD, my heart melted. Hearing him tell me he was sorry for being "hard head" and that he knows I love him and that he loves me, too was the greatest gift I could ever receive. Kamalani did an absolutely beautiful rendition of "I'll Be Home for Christmas." You can see and feel her beauty when you listen to it. She is so talented and has become such a good singer. Kamalei sang "One Little Candle", my favorite song and he played it on the 'ukulele instead of singing it accapella. He started about by telling me he loved me and that as the oldest boy he should have the strongest testimony. He then sang his testimony through the song. It was magnificient. I will cherish this gift forever! I'm so thankful to Llewellyn and Jason for putting this together.
As we start the New Year I am ready to take my 'ohana to the next level - to do better, be better and to lengthen our stride as we live strong and full of courage.
