Merrie Monarch Week!

After two years of preparation, Hālau Kekuaokalāʻauʻalaʻilahi leaves tomorrow for the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo!  I can't believe how quickly this momentous occasion has come upon us.  Both Kamalei and Kamaehu will be entering.  They have worked so hard preparing for this competition.  I am excited and nervous for them!

I am so happy that Kamalani and I will be able to join them on Friday!  Llewellyn is a chaperone, so he will leave with the boys tomorrow morning (Wednesday).  Just a few months ago I had come to accept that financially I could not afford to go over to Hilo for the competition.  It was a heart wrenching decision and lots of tears were shed thinking of not being there for my boys at their very first Merrie Monarch competition.  Then, a surprise blessing came our way and our trip was paid for!  I am just so grateful for this blessing and the angels around us who do God's work!

Today is a busy day as we set the final things in place.  The boys will get hair cuts and pedicures this afternoon (lucky them)!  In between my two jobs I am double and triple checking the packing list, itinerary, and trying to tie up all loose ends before Kamalani and I leave.  We are all so excited!

As the hours go by and the clock continues to tick, I hold a silent prayer in my heart for my boys and their hula brothers, kumu, and all those who will be there supporting them!  God's blessings upon the young men of Hālau Kekuaokalaʻauʻalaʻiliahi!
